Capitulary Vyšehrad basilica was founded by prince Vratislav II in 1070 as one of the oldest religious buildings in Prague. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Gothic style of the basilica was renewed and it acquired the image which inseparably co-creates panorama of the city. In 2003, the Pope Jan Pavel II promoted it to papal “basilica minor”. In the fourth side chapel in the left part of the church you will find the precious and extremely valuable board picture of the Virgin Mary of Vyšehrad which probably was brought to the country in mid of the 14th century by Roman emperor Charles IV from his coronation journey to Italy and presented to the cathedral. (Here you can see copy, original is in National Gallery.) Treasury with excellent set of top Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance works which constitute a part of Vyšehrad treasure document the fact that at the beginning of the 15th century the Vyšehrad canonry belonged to the richest religious institutions in the Czech lands.
