Through a narrow passage between two buildings, on the east side of the Old Town Square, and a portal dating from the 14th century, you enter a magnificent Gothic building, the second-most important in Prague. The three-nave church was completed in around 1415. By the fourth pillar in the middle nave, visitors will find the marble tombstone of the famous imperial astronomer to Rudolf II, Tycho de Brahe, dating from 1601. Nor should you overlook the beautiful Annunciation of the Virgin Mary by Karel Škréta, whose paintings also grace other church altars. An important historical relic is the tin Gothic baptismal font dating from 1414, located beneath the Gothic sedile of the same period. AddressStaroměstské náměstí, Praha 1 |
