The New Town Hall is one of the most significant Prague monuments and it entered into the history through the event known as the First Prague Defenestration that started the Hussite revolution, one of the most significant reform movements in the Middle Ages, on July 30, 1419. The Town Hall was built in the middle of the 14th century as the view point of the Prague New Town, founded by Charles IV in 1348. When you step up 221 stairs right to the gallery of the Gothic tower, you will have a unique opportunity to admire – from the height of 42 metres - the extensive municipal part being built from the middle of the 14th century in compliance with the uniform building plan. Wonderful Charles square and the network of streets located on the right side of Vltava river will open in front of you creating a unique coulisse of Prague history as well as its present. You may wish to visit the original Gothic chapel with rich decorations on the first floor of the tower and the Gallery where short-term exhibitions are held. AddressPraha 2, Karlovo nám. 1/23 |
