Strahov picture gallery is one of the oldest and largest private collections of works of art in the Czech Republic. The selection of one hundred and fifty valuable examples of Czech and European paintings of the 14th to the 19th centuries is supplemented by the collection of works of applied art. The collection proves a refined taste and interest in art shown by the Premonstratensian Order; the monastery was built at a dominant place in Prague already in 1143. Together with the gallery, you will see historical parts of the convent building, made available to the public only recently, in particular the unique Romanesque halls originating in the 12th century, the canonry hall and refectories with rich decorations.
